Produced by:

Keanu Reeves and Justin Szlasa

Produced by Keanu Reeves and Justin Szlasa, and directed by Christopher Kenneally, Side By Side is a documentary that takes a look at the new digital revolution in filmmaking. The documentary sees Reeves interview the best loved and most successful film directors in Hollywood, about the transition from using photochemical celluloid film, to digital filmmaking, including everything that comes with it, from financing and distribution, to 3D technology.

The documentary features insight and opinion from directors such as David Fincher, James Camerson, David Lynch, Lena Dunham, Martin Scorsese, Danny Boyle, Christopher Nolan, and many more including input from cinematographers, colourists and artists.

The documentary “investigates the history, process and workflow of both digital and photochemical film creation” and aims to show “what artists and filmmakers have been able to accomplish with both film and digital and how their needs and innovations have helped push filmmaking in new directors”. More importantly, the film looks to the future of film and cinema, and what digital filmmaking can bring to it.

Side By Side has garnered considerable success worldwide and has been screened as part of the Tribeca Film Festival 2012, Sydney Film Festival, and the 62nd Berlinale Film Festival.

A great start to the Digital Biscuit event; as part of the programme Side by Side will be shown at the Irish Film Institute on January 24th at 8pm followed by a talk with Director Christopher Kenneally.
